Joywave & IDKHOW

American indie rock band Joywave gave a very memorable performance on their co-headlining tour with IDKHOW this past Wednesday, September 14th at The Van Buren in Phoenix. The band currently are on the radio with their new single “We Are All We Need” -- a song off their latest album “Cleanse” that celebrates friendship, music and continuing to do what they love most.

As soon as they hit the stage with their first song “Coming Apart”, the crowd roared to life as if they’ve seen the band millions of time prior. Their lineup consists of Daniel Armbruster (vocals), Joseph Morinelli (guitar), and Paul Brenner (drums). Armbruster was very effective in charming the crowd and making them laugh. I almost forgot I was at a concert because I was laughing aimlessly at Armbruster’s history jokes (yes you heard me - HISTORY jokes).

Their stage also consisted of a car parked right behind them with Arizona license plate JOYWAVE on it. It was a memorable touch and something I’ve never seen before.

The band can be known for its collaboration with electronic music project Big Date, “Dangerous”, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in 2014.

After ending their setlist with “Destruction”, I can confidently say that every person who left The Van Buren that night became a Joywave fan (if they weren’t already). The trio performed outstandingly, allured the crowd with jokes, and managed to make their mark at the historic Van Buren.
